The Otway Ranges set the tone: Amy's Gran Fondo begins in Lorne, climbs steeply early, and then heads toward a "breathtaking stretch of the Great Ocean Road." It feels like a proper race, not a casual ride, with fully closed roads and enough elevation to make positioning and pacing important.
The course finishes on the main street in Lorne after two major climbs, including one in the second half when legs are already tired. At the high point, the "epic view of Bass Strait makes up for any pain," but only just. Riders will line up chasing different goals: finishing, a previous time, a friend ahead, or the first rider across the line. The unique aspect is simple: riding the Great Ocean Road on fully closed tarmac.
