Nelson Reserve serves as the starting point for an event that feels more like a community gathering than a competitive race. The Gratitude Walk and Fun Run is a component of Little Haven Week, focused on “honouring our patients and families” and expressing thanks to the community supporting care for the terminally ill. It is intentionally social, welcoming participants of all abilities, families, children, concession entrants, and junior or adult teams.
The course begins at Nelson Reserve, goes under the highway, then proceeds to Albert Park oval for laps before returning to the finish line at Nelson Reserve. It is the type of run-walk where participation is valued over speed: attendees come to “enjoy the pleasure of movement,” share the warmth of Gympie’s winter, and spend time “reflecting on life’s gifts.” A unique feature is Little Haven’s Gratitude Tree, where participants can hang a heart with a message. Following this are market stalls, children's activities, food, and entertainment by the Rocknrollabillys.
