Adria Downs Station is located near Big Red on the edge of the Simpson Desert. The Simpson Desert Ultra is a challenging introduction to trail running. It is a remote, single-stage ultra consisting of four loops: North, South, West, and East. The course features "towering red sand dunes", hard-packed tracks, and "rocky gibber plains" beneath a vast outback sky.
The running is exposed and quiet, with each loop traversing a different section of the "raw beauty of Queensland's Channel Country". This event is suited for experienced ultra runners capable of managing isolation, self-sufficiency, and long distances where "the silence of the outback is broken only by your footsteps", before returning to the station's start/finish.
