The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail defines this event, a converted railway corridor on "Australia's longest recreational rail trail." The Somerset Rail Trail Classic Fun Run is now in its 23rd year. It is a relaxed run, walk, and bike day, not a competitive race, centered around Fernvale Sports Park and the old rail line through Vernor, Lowood, Coominya, and Esk.
Expect a mostly flat-to-undulating trail surface that "rolls through farming country, small townships, and Queensland bushland." The "breathtaking views of the Brisbane Valley and Brisbane River" provide motivation when energy levels dip. All participants return to the finish at Fernvale Sports Park, creating a shared finish atmosphere for beginners, regular runners, seasoned cyclists, and young families with prams.
