The Townsville Railway Run feels like a typical Road Runners morning rather than a large-scale event: club members, visitors, beginners, walkers, and experienced runners mingle before heading out along the coast in tropical North Queensland. The course begins at the scenic Strand Park, continues along paths beside the picturesque Strand, and then moves through nearby streets on mostly flat ground. The early start is intended to avoid the tropical heat, and the out-and-back or loop design means the route is straightforward. As a Presidents Cup event, club points are available, but the primary appeal is the friendly, social atmosphere and the tropical beauty of North Queensland's coastline.
