Sherriff Park hosts a Townsville Road Runners event that follows the Ross River path. It's a flat, paved run with a club atmosphere, suitable for beginners and new participants, yet offering a solid morning workout for regular runners. The route provides a "scenic journey along the Ross River pathway," featuring green vegetation and water views by the river.
From the park, the course proceeds towards Nathan Street Bridge, also known as Charles Barton Bridge. The longer loop extends past Aplins Weir before turning at Barcroft Street. The distinctive feature is its shape: the riverside loop forms a figure-8, giving the Townsville Riverside Figure 8 its name. Expect a mix of local runners, a consistent surface, and a finish at Sherriff Park.
