The Velpe Mene Trail begins and ends at Sportcentrum Houtemveld in Tienen, leading participants into the natural areas surrounding Tienen and Glabbeek. This late-November trail race offers three distances: 10 km, 19 km, and 29 km. Natuurpunt Velp-Mene, the local nature organization responsible for managing several reserves in the region, organizes the event. Consequently, the race focuses on running through protected natural areas, avoiding roads and urban streets.
The courses are predominantly off-road, with approximately 75% unpaved for the 10 km and over 80% unpaved for the longer distances. Each distance features a unique route, though some sections overlap. Portions of the course traverse private property or deviate from standard walking trails, granting runners access to normally restricted areas. The 10 km route is suitable for all ages and serves as an introduction for novice trail runners. The 19 km and 29 km routes are restricted to participants over 16 years old, catering to those seeking an extended, relaxed outing in nature. Registration is limited to 525 participants, and participation fees contribute to local nature conservation efforts.
