Wings for Life - Wuustwezel Antwerpen is an app-driven run in Wuustwezel, Flanders, based on a distinct concept: all participants begin simultaneously, but no one runs toward a conventional finish line. Runners and wheelchair users continue until the Virtual Catcher Car overtakes them. The car begins its pursuit thirty minutes after the start, initially traveling at 14 km per hour, and gradually increases its speed until all participants have been caught.
The local course covers 6 km around the Athletes for Hope rehabilitation meadow, featuring gravel roads, streets, and accessible paths for wheelchairs. The loop crosses the meadow twice, with live music accompanying participants as they pass, alongside available refreshments and snacks. Timing and bib numbers provide a race atmosphere, yet the format resembles a collective challenge more than a typical road race. All registration fees and donations directly support spinal cord injury research.
