The McNabs Half Marathon takes runners to McNabs Island in Nova Scotia for an early-July morning of urban trail racing. The half marathon begins at the visitor centre near McNab's Beach and follows three loops of the island. Shorter options include a two-loop race and a single 7 km loop. Runners travel to the island via jet boat shuttle from the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts; the shuttle is included in registration.
The course winds past the stone walls of Fort McNabs, the island lighthouse, and a beach section offering views back toward the city. It is designed to be approachable for various skill levels, with trail stewards providing directions and Halifax Search & Rescue medical teams present. Participants are asked to bring their own drinking containers for aid stations. Following the race, the island hosts a social gathering with goodies, prizes, and a BBQ. The event supports Halifax Search & Rescue and Friends of McNabs Island through donations.
