レースについて
Thyon-Dixence is a high-altitude mountain race in Valais, Switzerland, connecting Thyon 2000 with the Grande Dixence dam. Held annually in August near Vex and Hérémence, it covers 16.35 km with 700 m of climbing and 475 m of descent. The start is above 2,000 m, and the entire route remains at this altitude, meaning the short distance involves thin air, exposed mountain terrain, and minimal flat sections. The event attracts both amateur and professional runners from approximately 30 countries.
The course passes Mont Rouge, follows the valley along the mountainside, ascends to the Mirador at 2,420 m, then descends towards the dam, typically finishing on the dam wall. La Gentiane de Mâche, a gymnastics club from Hérémence, established the race after its members desired a direct running connection between Thyon and the Grande Dixence dam. Albrecht Moser won the inaugural edition, and the race quickly drew international mountain runners. Its timing is also significant: Sierre-Zinal is usually held the following week, and several athletes have won both, including Ricardo Mejía and Lucy Wambui Murigi.
