The Gondo Marathon is a Swiss mountain trail series held on the Simplon Pass in Valais, located between Gondo and Ried-Brig. Its main event is Switzerland's sole two-day double marathon: 42 km one day, followed by 42 km back the next day on an alternate route. This covers 84 km with 4,200 meters of elevation gain. Shorter distances are available, including a 42 km marathon with 2,200 meters of gain and a 28 km Gondo Running race with 1,400 meters of gain. Relay, children’s, and junior races are also offered.
The course primarily follows single-track trails through high mountain terrain, distinct from road marathons offering mountain scenery. Participants travel from Gondo to Ried-Brig on the first stage and return to Gondo on the second. This setup provides a full weekend crossing experience rather than a single, extended loop. The race also serves as a memorial, commemorating the 2000 flood disaster in Gondo, which resulted in 13 fatalities. The event maintains a family-friendly atmosphere and is included in the Valaisan Cup.
