Internationale Inferno-Rennen, Mürren 2027

The Internationale Inferno-Rennen are downhill ski races held in Mürren, Switzerland, concluding Inferno Week with the Inferno Downhill. This event is a mass downhill, not a stadium race; the expected winning time is six to seven minutes, meaning even the fastest skiers are on the course significantly longer than in a typical World Cup downhill. The 82nd Inferno Downhill occurred after fresh overnight snow, which slowed participants and resulted in a winning run of 7:16.47 for Mathias Reber of Niedersimmental. Reber had also won the Hexenabfahrt the previous week, and skiers from the Bernese Oberland largely occupied the women’s and men’s podiums. The race was halted after more than half the starters had completed the course, following the collapse and subsequent death of a 69-year-old participant shortly before the finish, despite immediate resuscitation attempts. Organizers finalized the results for those who had finished and reduced the evening's celebrations at the Alpine Sports Center Mürren.
