Runthrough Ascona-Locarno takes place in the Swiss canton of Ticino at the end of October, using Ascona as the base near Lake Maggiore. It combines trail and road running, offering short 2 km and 3 km races alongside demanding mountain races of 24 km and 42 km. The 42 km race ascends 2,486 meters, and the 24 km route includes 1,271 meters of elevation gain. These main events are designed for runners accustomed to steep terrain and autumn weather.
The 42 km course reaches Pizzo Leone at 1,600 meters, providing views of Lake Maggiore and, on clear days, Monte Rosa, a prominent Alpine peak. The vertical kilometer is a distinct climbing event on the Mont-Sacré stairs, concluding at the Madonna del Sasso church above Locarno, with vistas of the lake and mountains. A 2 km race is available for children. Many participants extend their stay for boat excursions on Lake Maggiore, visits to Madonna del Sasso, or exploration of the historic streets of Ascona and Locarno.
