RunThrough Trails Engelberg is a mountain trail race held in Engelberg, a Swiss town in the Canton of Obwalden, approximately 25 km south of Lucerne. This marks RunThrough Trails’ first event in Switzerland, offering race distances from a short uphill run to 25K, 56K, and 100K options. The event weekend begins with the Engelberg Uphill Race, starting in the town and ascending to the Brunni gondola station for an Apres-Trail conclusion.
Engelberg provides a distinct backdrop for the race, featuring cobbled streets, historic Swiss hotels, verdant pastures, glaciated peaks, and a 900-year-old Benedictine monastery in close proximity within the valley. The region boasts around 500 km of trails, with the race utilizing paths that offer significant elevation gain but are generally runnable, avoiding overly exposed or technical terrain. The longer routes traverse the Furenalp valley before proceeding towards Brunni and further afield, making it suitable for runners seeking European mountain scenery without the demands of a highly technical alpine race.
