Hory Bory is an autumn relay race for teams of six to ten runners, covering approximately 30 stages through the Beskydy, Javorníky, White Carpathians, and Pálava regions. With only one runner from each team on the course at any given time, the race emphasizes team coordination: teammates must wait, drive, switch out, and ensure the group progresses from one stage to the next.
Teams begin the initial stage in waves, with multiple teams departing simultaneously. During the race, the non-running team members travel by car on public roads to the subsequent handover point. These exchanges are situated in villages to keep vehicles out of protected landscape areas with driving restrictions. The organizers design the race to highlight shared team effort and the autumnal scenery of the mountains and forests, rather than presenting it as a straightforward solo competition.
