Finnensturm is a November evening race held on the Finnenbahn within the Sport- und Solepark Große Wiese in Arnsberg-Hüsten. Runners navigate a 1,000-meter wood-chip loop, offering a soft, springy surface that is gentler on the joints compared to asphalt or synthetic tracks. LAC Veltins Hochsauerland organizes this event, attracting several hundred participants of all ages. The course measures 2.5 meters in width and is distinct from the park’s other pathways. It is illuminated for the evening race, a practical consideration for a late-year event. One past edition saw over 250 finishers complete the race on a track that had been recently repaired but remained slick, with no reported injuries. The race embraces the darkness, featuring an awards ceremony framed by torches and candles, distinguishing its atmosphere from typical road races.
