The Volksbank-Münster-Marathon begins at Schlossplatz, in front of Münster’s Prince-Bishop’s Palace, and concludes on Prinzipalmarkt in the historic city center. This 42.195-kilometer road marathon, held annually in Münster, Germany, since 2002, is organized by Münster-Marathon e. V. with Volksbank im Münsterland as the title sponsor. The event ranks among Germany’s ten largest marathons by participant numbers, and the finish time limit is 6 hours.
The officially measured course winds through central Münster and the surrounding countryside. Participants will pass Aegidiitor, Überwasserkirche, St. Paulus-Dom, the Promenade, Buddenturm, St. Ludgeri, Salzstraße, Aasee, the Central Cemetery, Gievenbeck, Nienberge, the Aa river, and Roxel before heading back into the city. The route is largely flat, with a height difference of only 19 meters between its lowest and highest points. The event also features a four-person relay, a two-thirds marathon, a children’s marathon with approximately 300 participants each year, and a charity run of about 100 runners. This charity run has supported organizations including Kinderhilfe Organtransplantation, UNESCO’s educational initiatives for children in need, and Plan International Germany.
