Stage 3 of Die Bergischen 5 follows the third section of the Bergisches Panoramasteig, running from Kürten-Biesfeld to Dhünn in the Bergisches Land. The stage begins with a wide view over the Rhine Valley, and on clear days Cologne Cathedral is visible in the distance.
The route passes through Bechen, nicknamed the donkey town, before heading toward the Große Dhünn reservoir. This is Germany’s second-largest drinking water reservoir, holding 81 million cubic meters, and its broad protected zone provides space for wildlife around the water; kingfishers, little grebes, and black storks are among the species that may be seen there. The path crosses two pre-dam walls, then finishes in the quiet village of Dhünn at the inflow of the Kleine Dhünn. Volunteer route stewards Winfried Rehbach, Joachim Kutzner, and Brigitte Meller help maintain this stage.
