The Hochgratlauf takes runners up Hochgrat, the highest peak in the Allgau Nagelfluhkette above Oberstaufen-Steibis in Bavaria. It is an international mountain race for ambitious runners, held annually around early September and organized by TSV 1862 Oberstaufen. The main race begins late morning at the Hochgrat valley station, so the day starts at the lift base rather than on a town square or road circuit.
The climb is central to the race: runners ascend toward the summit area with wide views across Bavaria and the Allgau mountains. The event also features a youth mountain run, with younger age groups competing from Staufner Haus to the mountain station. The Hochgratlauf has a long history, with over four dozen editions held, and it has also been part of the Salomon-Gore Trailrunning Cup.
