The BAU Binnenalsterultra begins at 9:00 AM on New Year's Day next to Hamburg's Hotel Vierjahreszeiten. A small group of runners will complete 30 laps around the Binnenalster. This is a private, invitation-only ultramarathon covering approximately 52 kilometers, organized by runners for runners, not by a large event company. The time limit is seven hours, the entry fee is 35 euros, and the field is limited to 45 participants, divided equally among women, men, and diverse participants.
The course is straightforward: a single road loop around the inner Alster, repeated until 30 laps are completed. There are no road closures, meaning runners share the lakeside paths and roads with the general public and are asked to be mindful. Drinks and sufficient food are available, with one aid station and a public restroom noted on the course. Starting spots are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, followed by a waiting list. Any surplus funds are donated, and results are logged in the DUV ultramarathon statistics.
