The Burger Rolandlauf is a long-running road race in Burg, a town in Saxony-Anhalt, listed on the local event calendar as a club-and-volunteer sporting event. Its scheduled date was in November, but the race could not proceed as planned because the original route presented safety and traffic-control requirements the city could not fulfill for that occasion.
The planned course traversed the city center, Flickschupark, followed the Ihle river, and extended onto major roads including the B1. To hold it legally and safely, organizers would have required staffed mobile vehicle barriers at multiple points, parked vehicles removed from the center, and temporary closures at the B1/Erkenthierfeld and Kolonie/Berliner Chaussee intersections.
