The Dreikönigslauf is a New Year running event in Schwäbisch Hall, held on January 6 as the district’s biggest sports event. Runners of many ages and ability levels line up, from children and juniors in the Stadtwerke-Jugendlauf to adults in races such as the VR Bank Hauptlauf and the Röwisch Wohnbau Cup. Recent editions have filled every race, and the event has drawn enough depth at the front for defending champions Hendrik and Esther Pfeiffer to face serious competition.
The route goes straight through Schwäbisch Hall’s old town and the Ackeranlagen, so runners pass half-timbered facades, busy squares, and narrow city streets rather than staying on a plain out-and-back road. Professional announcers, course entertainment, and spectators are part of the day, which gives the race more of a town-wide feel than a small club run. The series also carries real history, with its 40th edition bringing both a participant record and a new course record.
