Eschweiler Citylauf transforms Eschweiler's city center in North Rhine-Westphalia into a road-running course for one Sunday. Marathon-Club Eschweiler 1983 e.V. organizes this city race for a wide range of participants, offering 5 km and 10 km runs for recreational runners, children's races, a youth race, Nordic walking, and a championship race for licensed athletes. It is part of the Regio Aachen Laufcup and the Rur-Eifel-Volkslauf Cup, integrating it into both the local running schedule and the broader regional circuit.
The course is designed in laps within the city center: the 5 km run consists of three laps, while the 10 km run begins with a shorter opening lap followed by five full laps. Children's races, featuring short 300 m runs and a 1.5 km youth race, are positioned centrally in the program. The event culminates with the North Rhine championship race, attracting top road runners from NRW who require a start pass for entry. Earlier editions were held under the name Internationaler Volkslauf Eschweiler, and the club has a history spanning decades of public running events in the town leading up to the current Citylauf format.
