Lauf Durch das Thüringer Schiefergebirge begins and ends in Schmiedefeld, a part of Saalfeld within Germany’s Thuringian Slate Mountains. This trail running event offers distances from a 200-meter children’s run to approximately 22 kilometers. Options include a half marathon, a 9 km main race, and Nordic Walking along the 9 km course.
The course is predominantly off-road, consisting of about 90% forest paths and 10% asphalt. This terrain makes even the longer races feel like mountain and woodland running rather than a road race. The more challenging courses can involve ascents of up to around 550 meters. Shorter children’s and youth races, covering 2 km and 4 km, are also available for families and younger participants.
