The Maintal Ultratrail begins in Veitshöchheim, Lower Franconia, Bavaria, situated in the Main Valley wine region. This mid-July trail race offers three distances: 13 km, 30 km, or 64 km, allowing participants to select a shorter trail run or a full ultratrail distance. While the scenery of vineyards along the Main might suggest an easy course, organizers caution against underestimating the rolling hills and steep ascents.
The 64 km and 30 km events follow single-loop routes through varied terrain including hills, natural areas, vineyards, and bodies of water. The longest route involves approximately 1,700 meters of elevation gain, with the 30 km course featuring around 720 meters of gain. The 13 km option provides a similar trail and vineyard experience on a reduced scale. This event also serves as the venue for the Bavarian Trail Championships, adding a competitive element to the day alongside participants choosing their preferred distance.
