Rund um Wellen is a long-running Volkslauf in Beverstedt, Germany, offering four race options including a full 42.2 km marathon. The event takes place in summer and has been held for over 50 years. Its marathon holds a unique place in German running history; organizers state it is the country’s fourth-oldest marathon, with club records indicating marathon runners participated when very few marathons existed in Germany.
The routes traverse varied natural paths instead of a big-city road circuit. Organizers note the courses are scenic yet challenging. This is a small, family-friendly race with low entry fees, limited sponsors, and no expectation of large roadside crowds. It relies significantly on volunteers, such as the local volunteer fire department, while sponsors contribute to practical race elements like start and finish banners and winners’ trophies.
