PAUL, short for Panoramasteig Ultralauf, is a small trail-running series organized by runners for runners, with the organizers stating they do not want it to become a mass event. The race weekend runs from Thursday to Sunday and offers three solo distances: PAUL150, PAUL100, and PAUL50. The longest race is the serious one: 150 miles on foot, approximately 7,000 meters of climbing, and long stretches through forests with partial self-sufficiency.
PAUL150 entrants must prove they have finished a demanding 100-miler within the previous 24 months, or provide their DUV record; PAUL100 and PAUL50 do not require this proof. Places are intentionally limited, with 75 slots each for PAUL150, PAUL100, and PAUL50, plus 30 early-start spots for the 150-mile race at 4:00 a.m. Each race is an individual event, so every runner covers the full route alone and on foot, and the organizers reserve the right to reject applications if they deem a runner unsuitable for the longest distance.
