Preussische Meile
The Preussische Meile is an evening road race in Potsdam, Brandenburg, beginning and ending at the city’s Brandenburg Gate. The primary race covers 7.53248 km, the old Prussian mile converted almost exactly into modern distance. It takes place in June with a 19:30 start and is part of the MBS-Sparkassencup Potsdam race series. The name is the main draw: a Prussian mile measured 7,532.5 meters, considerably longer than today’s English mile of 1,609.344 meters. The event has been held for over 25 years, and the program also features children’s and school races, plus a PLC Half Marathon Relay. This lends the evening more of a local running festival atmosphere than a singular start-and-finish road race.
