The Rellinger Citylauf takes place on the sports field at Sportplatz Ellerbeker Weg in Rellingen, coinciding with the Rellinger Apfelfest. It is a timed event on a circuit, not a point-to-point race. Walkers have 30 minutes, and solo runners and relay teams have 60 minutes to complete as many 400-meter laps as possible. The walking event is open to participants born in 2015 or earlier, with the same age cutoff for the one-hour solo run. Two-person and four-person teams can include participants born from 2018 onward.
The course is a counter-clockwise loop around the sports field, run repeatedly until time expires. Timing is done with ankle-worn transponders, which function as relay batons in team races, passed between runners. With 35 total registrations and 14 walkers in the listed edition, the event has a local community feel. Michael Herrmann organizes the race; results and certificates are published afterward, photos are shared, and proceeds benefit the Rellinger Bürgerstiftung.
