Champagneløbet is a New Year's Eve running event in Silkeborg, Denmark. It begins at Vestergade Hallen, guiding runners and walkers through town before lunch. The menu caters to families and club runners alike: a 2.5 km race, billed as Denmark's most entertaining run for all ages; a 5 km walk; a 5 km run; a 10.6 km quarter marathon; and a half marathon with a three-hour limit. Starts are staggered from the half marathon down to the 2.5 km race. Chip timing is provided via the race bib, with an additional split for half marathon participants.
The route emphasizes public participation to close the year. Music, dancing, and fireworks are present along the course, and the finish upholds the event's name with sparkling wine for adults, soda for younger attendees, and kransekage for all. The field is limited to 1,500 participants on a first-come basis, suitable for ordinary Danish households and dedicated runners. Practical amenities include water stations, toilets on the course and at the finish, showers, and food available for purchase near the finish area.
