Night TRAIL sends runners into Marselisborgskoven after dark for muddy, hilly trail races over 5 km or 10 km. The series runs through autumn and winter, with six Wednesday evening events starting at 7:00 p.m. It is not a smooth road run: the routes use small trails with steep climbs, mud, water, sand, and the extra problem of finding your rhythm by headlamp.
The courses are picked and tested by top-level orienteering runners, then marked thoroughly so runners can focus on running instead of navigation. Each event has men’s and women’s classes for both distances, prizes for the three fastest in each class, and draw prizes for a few lucky finishers. Points build across the season before an overall winner is named after all six races, and the clubhouse routine after racing includes soup, sauna, and time with the other runners.
