Copenhagen hosts the Ørestad Half Marathon and WRRC Copenhagen Warm-Up, leading into a September road-running event connected to the World Athletics Road Running Championships. The championship schedule features a half marathon, 5K, and one-mile race, bringing together elite athletes and recreational runners. Organizers anticipate a total of 65,000 participants, with an estimated 20,000 coming from outside Denmark.
The races will take place on Copenhagen's streets, with the primary championship course crossing the city center. The organizing committee includes the same local entity responsible for the Copenhagen Marathon for over four decades and the Copenhagen Half Marathon since its inception. This connection is significant as Copenhagen's contemporary half-marathon landscape originated from a prior world championship event, and the yearly Copenhagen Half Marathon now attracts close to 30,000 participants, often selling out rapidly.
