Anbotoko Kilometro Bertikala is a vertical kilometer race in the Basque Country. It begins in Arrazola-Atxondo and concludes on the Anboto summit, 1,331 meters above sea level. Participants cover 3.8 kilometers, ascending 1,092 meters, making the race nearly entirely uphill from the mountain's base to its peak. The event is conducted as a time trial, focusing on individual climbing speed rather than group racing on varied terrain.
The course records highlight the climb's intensity: Marco de Gasperi's men's record is 37:14, and Oihana Azkorbebeitia's women's record is 45:59. The race awards cash prizes to the top three men and women: 300 euros for first place, 200 for second, and 100 for third. An additional 500-euro bonus is offered to any runner who breaks a course record. One edition recorded 194 finishers (155 men, 39 women), with two participants not reaching the summit. The preceding edition had 145 participants, indicating a significant increase in the field size.
