Chilegua Trail is a trail running event in Pájara, located in the south of Fuerteventura, a Canary Island often first imagined for its long beaches. This race directs runners toward a different aspect of the island: dry valleys, stone tracks, and desert terrain, diverging from the more frequented coastal image. The primary Half route covers 25.3 km with 1,014 m of elevation gain. Shorter options include an 11 km Promo, a 7 km Mini, a 7 km hiking category, and children’s races ranging from 500 m to 2 km based on age.
The course progresses from the coast inland, utilizing rough trails through Fuerteventura’s less-traveled valleys. It emphasizes navigating loose stone, exposed desert paths, and consistent changes in terrain over smooth running. The variety of race distances accommodates experienced trail runners, walkers, newer participants, and families, with the terrain firmly connecting the event to Fuerteventura’s wilder character, distinct from its beach-resort image.
