The Descenso a Nado de la Ría de Navia is an open-water swim in Navia, Asturias. Its main race covers 5000 metres in the Ría de Navia. The 5000m event is divided into separate men’s and women’s races for swimmers born in 2012 or earlier. The men start in the early evening, with the women starting later the same evening. The event is part of a wider race programme that also includes an 1100m swim open to all ages and a 2400m swim for older youth and adults.
The field is larger than a small club swim, with a listed entry total of 249 swimmers. This includes 118 men and 53 women in the 5000m races. The shorter events add to the participation, with 36 swimmers entered over 1100m and 42 over 2400m, indicating the day caters to more than just long-distance specialists. The event is managed through Championchip, and registration is handled by the Ría de Navia organisers. The published camping conditions suggest some swimmers and supporters treat it as a weekend trip rather than a brief local event.
