The Maratón del Pavo de Espera is a 10 km road race held in Espera, a town in Cádiz with approximately 4,000 inhabitants. It takes place annually in January on Three Kings Day, becoming part of the holiday's traditions. Although "maratón" is in its name, this is not a 42.2 km marathon but a shorter town race organized by the Sports Delegation of Espera City Council.
The route winds through Espera’s streets, with the Castillo de Fatetar overlooking the town and the Sierra de Cádiz in the distance. Espera is situated along the route of the white villages, integrating the race into the town’s streets and holiday customs as much as into the runners' experience. Professionals, local athletes, and residents participate together, and the event has been held for over forty years.
