San Silvestre Ciudad de Motril is a night race held in December in Motril, Granada. It starts and finishes in Plaza de la Coronación. The evening includes races for different age groups and open events. The youngest runners, Pitufos, cover 650 metres. Sub 8 and Sub 10 categories race 1 km, Sub 12 and Sub 14 run 1.5 km, and Sub 16 compete over 3 km. The main competitive race is 6 km, with a 2 km Popular Race.
The event caters to two distinct groups: runners aiming for fast times in the competitive race, and families, children, and casual participants in the shorter races. The non-competitive Carrera Popular concludes the event, emphasizing costumes and a festive atmosphere over race times. With over thirty editions held, it stands as one of Motril’s significant annual sporting and family gatherings.
