San Silvestre de Arróniz is a New Year’s Eve road race held in Arróniz, a town in Navarra, Spain. As a local San Silvestre event, its purpose is straightforward: runners take to the streets at year’s end to compete before the festivities commence.
The event features three staggered starts based on age. Children under 9 race first at 5 PM, followed by children aged 10 to 13 who start at 5:30 PM. Runners over 14 conclude the race day at 6 PM. Prizes are awarded to the fastest runners in each category. Adding a local tradition, a team of eight runners can win a piglet if they all finish the race.
