Triatlón Sprint La Bodega del Canal de Villamuriel de Cerrato is a sprint triathlon held in Villamuriel de Cerrato, Palencia. It takes place beside Lock 33 of the Canal de Castilla, adjacent to La Bodega del Canal. The race begins at 11:30 AM and concludes with its award ceremony in the early afternoon, marking it as a concentrated, intense effort rather than an extended long-distance competition. This event serves as the concluding round of the Circuito de Triatlón Diputación de Palencia, which includes stops in towns such as Aguilar de Campoo, Astudillo, Dueñas, Boadilla, and Lantadilla. Approximately 150 triathletes from across Castilla y León are anticipated, and the Villamuriel race has the potential to determine the final circuit standings.
The course incorporates the canal area, the Harinera car park for transition zones, and the streets of Villamuriel de Cerrato. Participants complete a swim, transition swiftly, undertake the cycling segment, and finish with a run. Previous editions saw runners averaging around 3:32 per kilometre, with competitors separated by margins of just over ten seconds. The inaugural event attracted over 100 participants and marked the conclusion of both the Castilla y León Triathlon Ranking and the Diputación de Palencia circuit. The field comprises federated athletes, members of local clubs, and non-federated racers, fostering a competitive atmosphere akin to a focused club race rather than a casual gathering. An active FTCYL chip is mandatory.
