The 63K at Ultramaratón de los Cañones takes runners from Guachochi, Chihuahua, into La Sinforosa, a deep canyon known as the Queen of the Canyons. This 63.5 km trail race is set in the Barrancas del Cobre area, featuring approximately 2,770 meters of elevation gain and a pre-dawn start from the Municipal Presidency in Guachochi.
The challenge extends beyond the total distance; over 35 km of the course involve a 1,650-meter elevation change, including the descent into Barranca de la Sinforosa. Local Rarámuri, also known as Tarahumara, participate, connecting the event to the Indigenous runners who have traditionally traversed these canyons on foot. The 63K is a UTMB Index 50K race, and previous years have seen several hundred finishers, not just a select few elite athletes.
