At Metsä Group Seurakisat, a five-year-old might run 300 meters of cross-country one week and try a 40-meter sprint or sand-pit jump later in the summer. The series offers free, open club athletics events in Huittinen, with meetings at locations like Huittinen Sports Field, Huittinen Riding Centre, and Kännölä. It is designed for children, youth, and families, requiring no sports school membership or competition license. Registration occurs at the venue shortly before the events begin.
The program features simple events: short runs, cross-country distances, long jump, ball throw, javelin, and a soft children’s javelin called vinkukeihäs. Age groups range from five-year-olds up to eleven-to-thirteen-year-olds, with distances and events adjusted accordingly. All participants join a playful warm-up before competing. Each participant receives a Seurakisakortti, or club race card, collects a sticker for each visit, and can use the card to record summer results. The series does not award prizes at each meeting; results accumulate points across the events, and all participants are recognized together at the Kunniakierros event.
