The Girandulata di u Gozzi is a 12 km nature race held in Afa, a Corsican village situated at the base of Monte Gozzi, close to Ajaccio. It commences at 4:30 PM, taking place on mountain trails in semi-darkness. The course features 750 meters of elevation gain within its short distance. This mountain serves as a frequent training location for the club that organizes the race, which explains how the route developed from local running practices instead of being designed as a tourist attraction.
The event also features a 7 km daytime walk with 300 meters of climbing. Proceeds from the walk's registration fees are donated to charity. Safety is a significant consideration in the event's organization, with approximately 35 volunteers stationed along the route at 15 runner checkpoints. These checkpoints are connected via radio to a central race command post in the village. Two checkpoints provide water and energy bars, two are staffed by medical professionals including nurses and physiotherapists, and an ambulance is stationed at the start and finish area, provided by the local emergency service.
