Belle-Ile en Trail is a trail-running event held on Belle-Ile-en-Mer, an island off the coast of Morbihan. The 81 km race, named L'Ultra des Vagues, accommodates up to 500 runners, taking them around the island with 2,200 meters of elevation gain. The event also features shorter nature races, such as the 45 km Trail du Ponant, which crosses approximately half the island and includes 1,000 meters of elevation gain.
The Ultra des Vagues route encircles Belle-Ile along the coastal path before heading inland through Locmaria, Bangor, and Sauzon. The course combines seaside footpaths and island trails, focusing on consistent coastal ascents and descents over a considerable distance rather than a single major climb. Grand Raid Insulaire organizes the event, with assistance from the island's four communes, the Belle-Ile-en-Mer community authority, coastal conservation groups, Morbihan environmental services, and the Brittany regional council.
