Boucles de Gaas is a small road-running series held in Gaas, a village and commune in the Landes department of southwest France. It takes place on a Sunday in early March, organized by L’Union des Associations de Gaas. The main events are straightforward: a 5 km road race and a 10 km road race, each following a two-loop course through the village and the surrounding commune. These races are part of the Landais road race challenge, marking the opening of that challenge’s road season.
The route is more than just a flat village run; it features turns, changes in direction, and false flats that complicate pacing beyond what the distances might imply. The 10 km course is officially measured and approved by the French Athletics Federation, adding a serious aspect for runners aiming for an accurate time. The day also offers a 5 km nature walk starting from the town hall square, with proceeds supporting Adapei des Landes, alongside two children’s races for under-7s and 7-to-12-year-olds. The town center fosters a social atmosphere, with activities around the village hub as runners, walkers, families, and local clubs gather.
