The Course des Lumières in Lyon, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is a night run held in late November. Torches illuminate the streets during this event, which is distinct from the Fête des Lumières. It offers a 10 km road race and a 5 km option suitable for running or walking. The focus is on participation rather than competition. Each entry fee includes a 10 euro donation to the Fondation Hospices Civils de Lyon, with a tax receipt issued.
The course winds through streets lit by torches along the Rhône, offering views of Lyon landmarks like the Opéra de Lyon, the Grand Hôtel-Dieu, and the Musée des Confluences. Participants carry torches, blending sport with a communal procession of light. Since its inception, the Lyon event has generated over 1 million euros. The broader Course des Lumières series, which also takes place in Paris and Toulouse, has collectively raised more than 3 million euros throughout France.
