The Cross des Neiges begins in Saint-Régis-du-Coin, Loire, roughly 20 minutes from Saint-Étienne, leading participants into the Pilat park for a winter trail run on snow. The event provides 9 km and 14 km distances, available as individual trail runs or cani-cross races for those running with dogs. It maintains a modest scale with approximately 240 participants. The distances are designed to be approachable, not extreme; the 9 km course involves around 250 metres of elevation gain, and the 14 km course features about 450 metres of elevation gain.
The route crosses a mix of ski pistes, less-maintained wild paths, and prepared snow sections across the Haut Pilat plateau. It goes by notable locations including Gimel with its peat bog, Prélager and its ponds, and the glacières (ice houses). Clear weather offers views towards the Alps. The cani-cross race is a distinctive offering in the Loire, adhering to specific regulations concerning dog age, vaccinations, identification, and competition documentation. Participants receive homemade hot soup at the finish, and the event's profits are contributed to the charity Les enfants avant tout.
