The Dark Trail begins after sunset from the Cerny gymnasium at the Jean Ségalard complex in Cerny, France. This event features a 15 km nature run and an 11 km Nordic walk through a winter forest, both completed using headlamps. Nordic walkers start in the early evening, with runners departing thirty minutes later.
The course is almost exclusively on trails. Organizers have noted the possibility of torches along a section resembling a desert crossing. There is no official timing, lending the event the atmosphere of a communal night excursion rather than a competitive race. Marshals are stationed along the circuit to provide guidance, support, and ensure safety. Following the event, Club Olympique Sud Essonne provides a buffet to help participants warm up.
