La Foulée du Saint Joseph is a trail-heavy running event in Saint-Désirat, a village in France’s Rhône valley wine country. The main race is 16 km, with about 80% of the route on paths, and the event also offers a 10 km race, joëlette entries, and youth races. Everything starts from the Cave de St Désirat, which also serves as the finish for the 16 km course.
The 16 km route passes La Madone, goes over Chatelet, loops through vineyards, uses an old railway line, heads toward Champagne, then climbs back into the vines before dropping into Saint-Désirat and returning to the cave. The 10 km course stays closer to the Rochevine domain and the area around the village. The event carries a departmental label, and its setup makes the local wine landscape part of the race rather than just a backdrop.
