Grand Week-End Trail starts runners with headlamps on Saturday night before returning them for more hills on Sunday in Saint-Pierre-de-Clairac, a village in Lot-et-Garonne in southwest France. The event is scheduled for mid-November and offers four formats: a 13.5 km night trail, a 13.5 km daytime trail, a 26 km trail, and the Défi, which combines the night race with the 26 km the next day. The short courses climb about 500 meters, the 26 km climbs about 700 meters, and the Défi adds up to more than 1,200 meters of elevation gain. Late-November conditions are expected to be cool, with temperatures staying below about 10°C.
The routes are about 90% paths and trails, with hilly ground through undergrowth, open meadows, plains, and large cereal fields. The organizers do not publish maps, GPX files, or course plans in advance, wanting the route to remain a surprise until race weekend. The 14 km and 26 km distances count toward Challenge 47, a Lot-et-Garonne series of nine events, and the 14 km trail is the most popular option. The Défi is for well-trained trail runners seeking a harder two-day test. The race is organized by Pôle Sports Nature Orientation, a sports association founded in 2007 that began with orienteering and later expanded into raids and trail running. Prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each category, and the event asks runners to follow an eco-responsible trail spirit by carrying out litter and respecting the countryside.
