The ISTRE'M Race Swimrun Eliminator is a beach-based swimrun held at Plage de la Romaniquette in Istres, with the 25th Air Engineer Regiment designing the challenge. The event is structured around repeated swim-and-run loops, not a single point-to-point course. The adult format consists of up to six rounds, each with 150 metres of swimming and 2 kilometres of running. The swimming sections are intentionally shallow, with a maximum depth of 1.30 metres, allowing less confident swimmers to walk if necessary. Shorter loops and less elevation gain are featured in versions for adolescents, pre-adolescents, and younger children.
The course incorporates a military-themed element: participants may take five AIRSOFT shots for a time bonus, adding a strategic layer beyond pacing. Each adult and adolescent loop includes 30 metres of climbing. The youngest participants complete 400-metre runs with gentler 15-metre climbs. Runners, trail runners, walkers, and swimmers are welcome to compete, either individually, with friends, or as a family. Costumes are permitted, and food and drinks will be available on-site. All proceeds benefit wounded soldiers of the French Army. The event originated from a previous obstacle race that attracted close to 400 participants.
